Statement of Solidarity with the Long Island Roller Rebels.

Twin State Derby stands in solidarity with the Long Island Roller Rebels in their lawsuit against Nassau County, which recently issued an executive order which prohibits women who are transgender from participating in women’s sports at all public facilities in Nassau County. Trans women are women, and have the same right to exist in public spaces and to participate in public activities there. Further, while Nassau County’s executive order is aimed at trans women, its impact also falls on other human beings, including intersex women and gender expansive people. Roller derby has a proud history of working toward inclusion, fairness, and equity. The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association Statement on Gender can be found here:

All people should have the opportunity to participate in sports and other public activities without facing discrimination. By challenging Nassau County’s order, the Long Island Roller Rebels exemplify the courage and integrity which the roller derby community seeks to foster in all women everywhere.
